๐Ÿค– [Explanation] Patient Case CC: Flank Pain, Fevers (Monotherapy IV Antibiotic for Pseudomonas and Enterococcus Sp?) - #MEDIGRAM

๐Ÿ” Enteroccocus species are inherently resistant against cephalosporin antibiotics, leaving us only piperacillin-tazobactam and meropenem. These are aminopenicillins and carbapenems, respectively. Both antibiotics would cover Pseudomonas.

๐Ÿ˜ฑ However, meropenem offers more broad coverage that includes ESBL bugs and has variable efficacy against Enteroccocus sp. They best MONOTHERAPY agent here would be PIPERACILLIN-TAZOBACTAM.
