๐ค [Explanation] Patient Case CC: Flank Pain, Fevers (Monotherapy IV Antibiotic for Pseudomonas and Enterococcus Sp?) - #MEDIGRAM
๐ Enteroccocus species are inherently resistant against cephalosporin antibiotics, leaving us only piperacillin-tazobactam and meropenem. These are aminopenicillins and carbapenems, respectively. Both antibiotics would cover Pseudomonas.
๐ฑ However, meropenem offers more broad coverage that includes ESBL bugs and has variable efficacy against Enteroccocus sp. They best MONOTHERAPY agent here would be PIPERACILLIN-TAZOBACTAM.
